Since last summer, the EURE regions partners have been busy implementing their Action Plan to bring transformation at local level. Where do they currently stand? Are there already some visible improvements? Nicosia Development Agency (ANEL) tells us more about the changes that started to appear in Cyprus following its EURE Action Plan.
Can you summarise your Action Plan in one or two sentences?
Our Action Plan emphasises the inclusion of green infrastructure projects in the OXA Strategies of Nicosia (Strategy for Sustainable Development of Southern Nicosia and of Latsia & Geri); more specifically, the initiation of a new project to be financed through the selected PI. The proposed project is a green infrastructure project that aims at the improvement of the environmental performance management of urban spaces in Nicosia and it is entitled: the Urban Park of Palourokampos.
What have you already implemented?
The Urban Park of Palourokampos has already been included as a priority project in the OXA Strategy of Latsia and Geri. It has received financing approval under the new ESIF programming period 2021-2027 and more specifically through the Operational Program “THALIA 2021 – 2027”. The project is now under implementation and all phases are expected to be finalised by March 2026.
Do you already have some first evaluation? How are the changes brought by the Action Plan welcomed by the local actors?
The changes brought by the Action Plan seem to have been welcomed by the local actors. The Municipality of Latsia is working hard on the implementation of the project under the coordination and support of the Nicosia Development Agency as well as the Directorate General Growth (DGG), Ministry of Finance. The Final Beneficiary, the Local population, support the municipality at many levels. More specifically, they organise initiatives in collaboration with the municipality at the Park such as Tree Planting Days etc.
The project is finishing in a few months, do you already know if you will follow-up on the Action Plan? How?
We aim to follow up on the Action Plan and promote further the inclusion (in the OXA Strategies of Nicosia) and implementation of more green infrastructure projects aiming to improve the environmental performance management of urban spaces in Nicosia District and consequently the quality of life of the citizens.
