The RECREATE Project Lead Partner Coventry University Enterprises Ltd and their main West Midlands stakeholder Coventry City Council attended and delivered a presentation at the 4th International Scientific Conference “TOURMAN 2021” that took place virtually on the 21st to 23rd of May 2021.

The Conference was hosted and organised by the International Hellenic University and was themed “Restarting tourism, travel and hospitality: The day after”. The covid-19 pandemic is having a major impact on tourism, travel and hospitality; however, the global tourism industry is preparing for a dynamic restart. Achieving and maintaining success in the future is a major challenge for all tourism stakeholders and its impacts are critical for tourism, travel and hospitality management as well as education.

Coventry University Enterprises Ltd and Coventry City Council submitted and presented a paper entitled “Supporting smart tourism through smart mobility schemes: UK City of Culture” that included some of the findings generated by the RECREATE project.

The need of sustainability in tourism has initiated the introduction of ICT in the field. These technologies are also important in improving transport and mobility infrastructures. The purpose of the paper was to present an approach to supporting smart tourism by showing the smart urban mobility solutions that contribute the most to sustainable tourism, through the case study of Coventry City of Culture event.

The paper abstract was included in the official TOURMAN 2021 Book of AbstractsAccepted full papers will be included in the official conference proceedings, as a separate Edited Book, or alternatively will be considered for potential publication in one of the journal special issues.

The event was an interesting opportunity for the RECREATE Team to explore future opportunities in transport and smart mobility and discuss policies in the sector.
