Medtech4 Europe project partners prepared local Action Plans (APs) until the end of the first phase. In the next two years, they will implement these operations and try to achieve the goals set in APs.
South Transdanubian Regional Innovation Agency Ltd. (hereinafter: STRIA) prepared its AP as well, including three actions, which are the following:
1. Encouraging the cooperation and networking of medical technology companies
The first action potential is coordinating the developments that have been isolated so far and linking the activities of the relevant actors can significantly increase the competitiveness of the medtech sector. Three good practices adapted, which are complex systems of support activities and help reach the purposes. These are the following: Smart Innovation (DK), Lecco Innovation Ecosystem (IT) and Brightlands Ecosystem (NL).
Beside taking over good practices, activities need to be performed:
- organizing professional, thematic online and personal events for companies,
- establishing collaborations, coordination of collaborations,
- regular meetings, consultations.
The aim of the action is to develop collaborations, thus contributing to the improvement of the competitiveness of enterprises, to the reduction of their fragmentation and isolation, and to the development of the medical technology sector as a whole. Another aim of this realization is to help companies to recognize those areas where they would most badly need cooperation.
2. Capacity building of medtech enterprises
The second case is the solution for the need in securing the human resources for the medtech sector,in particular in the following areas:
- skilled workers directly involved in manufacturing,
- engineers involved in design and production,
- strengthening dual training at all levels of training,
- engineers and researchers participating in the research with a master's degree or doctoral degree.
Also, there is a demand to decrease the impacts of mandatory use of MDR (Medical Device Regulation) on domestic medical companies, which in healthcare will have serious consequences.
Four good practices used, which are identified in the first phase: the EIT Health Summer University (FR), the Business Support Program in the Capital Region (DK) and the CEA Technological Innovation Exhibition Space (FR) and Mediation in the field of open innovation for start-ups (FI).
Activities implemented as part of the second action:
- development of a capacity development knowledge base,
- organizing and conducting knowledge sharing events,
- support for individual capacity development projects.
The aim of the action is to expand the human and technological capacity of medtech companies, together with the development of an entrepreneurial ecosystem to increase the efficiency of capacity building.
3. Pilot Action (PA) - Effective promotion and marketing for better utilisation of medical technology research and development infrastructures
STRIA would like to propose new operational programme measures for facilitated academy-industry partnerships. STRIA teams up for this purpose with the two other beneficiaries, Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and the University of Pécs (UP).
The core idea of the PA is the need that emerging technology and the successful market implementation of medical simulation solutions should be closely linked with each other. Reaching this goal, targeted and effective technology promotion and science marketing activities, publicity actions are needed, such as the good practice of CEA. It operates a technological innovation showroom that highlights the latest technology solutions in 400 sqm, hosting 90 demonstrators in regularly updated interactive, educational exhibitions.
It is important to note that the implementation also involves direct and indirect target groups, who also benefit from this action and their participation is necessary to provide durable, feasible desired impact.
In the same time, the proposed pilot action intends to be a research testbed of future ERDF co-financed eligible project activities under this policy instrument.
