On April 28th, 2020, representatives of the drone sector in Catalonia participated in the 2nd Regional Stakeholders Meeting (RSG) of the European project Aerial Uptake. During the meeting, the first results of the project were shared to begin the development of an action plan that will promote the adoption of drone technologies and improve their social acceptance.
Due to the confinement measures, the meeting took place online, enabling the remote participation of representatives of companies, public administration, and research centers of the Catalan drone sector. The i2CAT Foundation and the Generalitat de Catalunya, coordinators of the Catalan participation in Aerial Uptake, informed attendees of the milestones achieved since the last RSG meeting in December, such as the preparation of the regional analysis in Catalonia, the collection of use cases among the members of Catalonia Smart Drones and the conduction of surveys among citizens and other groups linked to the drone sector.
Then, the attendees had the opportunity to participate in a co-creation virtual session to make contributions to the proposal of a regional action plan. The plan is aimed at developing policies to mitigate the problems related to the adoption of drone technologies through three strategic areas: innovation, market, and social impact. The results obtained from this working session will be shared with other European regions at the next international meeting of the project.
Aerial Uptake is part of the INTERREG EUROPE international cooperation program and has among its specific objectives to promote the assimilation of RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) technologies through the exchange of experiences and good practices in this sector. For this reason, regional stakeholders meetings are key to understanding the territorial reality and developing the necessary actions to improve regional development policies and programs. In addition, interested parties will have the opportunity to participate in person in international meetings as soon as they resume.
