After a successful collaboration with the international animation film festival FEST ANČA within the framework of the ALICE project last year, the Ministry of Culture of Slovakia took part in the international film event again this year. As the project enters a new phase of testing and sharing the solutions developed over the past two years to facilitate European co-productions in animation, FEST ANČA running at the beginning of July 2021 was a great opportunity to spread the word among animation professionals, both online and in person. ALICE’s presentation took place in Žilina, during Slovak Industry Day, on 2 July 2021.

The presentation consisted mainly of showing the industry how ALICE’s partners intend to take action after two years of in-depth study of the European animation sector. It focused in particular on Slovakia’s one-year action plan to support the development of the national industry. This plan gives priority to building up a European animation network while taking part in a smart directory of animation studios, specifically designed by ALICE to promote the participating studio’s skills and fields of expertise. Slovakia will also focus on talent development through the creation of educational workshops and conduct a comprehensive mapping of creative talent using ALICE’s methodology.

In-person attendees benefited from a fruitful networking session afterwards. It was an opportunity for industry professionals to mingle with decision makers, and for students to have exchanges with experienced professionals. Further questions about ALICE and its next steps were raised, proving once again ALICE’s significant appeal for the industry and indicating that successful implementation of new initiatives is likely. To be continued!
