THE IMPORTANCE OF A VALUE PROPOSITION
The first part of the meeting had the goal to stress the benefits of service/human-centred design for the municipality department leaders and workers. Since more people have stayed for the second part than originally expected, we assume they clearly saw the added value of the good practice in terms of their everyday work. The overall atmosphere has also indicated that the main message of the event (and the project itself) was communicated convincingly.

Using design thinking methods the First House Scheme of the Municipality of Nyíregyháza  was examined. (The First House Scheme service is a financial support for first-home buyers who decided to settle in Nyíregyháza City)

WELL-SELECTED METHODS (service safari + diary, customer interviews)
To “ease” the participants into the process, trying out the methods was done before the workshop, but the positive results show that for the next selected service we can be more ambitious and include (some of) them in the agenda.

CONCLUSIONS ABOUT THE SERVICE ITSELF:
1. CONFUSING, TOO TECHNICAL GUIDE DOCUMENT
Question: How might we describe the eligibility rules and the process in a clearer and more understandable way?
2. PAPER-BASED (NOT USER-FRIENDLY) APPLICATION
Question: How might we digitalize the process and make it easier on the applicant?
3. HARD-TO-NAVIGATE WEBSITE
Question: How might we simplify the structure of the city’s webpage?
4. NOT ENOUGH VISIBILITY
Question: How might we raise awareness of the supporting scheme (especially among young people)?

Our next step is organizing the “second half” of the workshop which will focus on ideation and achieving quick and ”easy” wins.
When we are “done” with the First Home Scheme, we plan to select another service which will be the centre of a 2nd series of events (or one longer one). Introducing the mindset to as many public officials as possible and testing the methodology like this will enable its integration into the municipal system in the long term.
