Progress in the implementation of a bio-based circular economy in the Pays de la Loire Region, France

During this first year of implementation, significant progress has been made in the 4 strategic axes of the regional action plan.

First, actions have been carried out to raise awareness among civil society and the private sector by organizing events (Regional Day of Actors in the Circular Economy, SIVAL) and regular meetings with the stakeholders. The health crisis has cancelled out certain events and makes it necessary to adapt tools for mobilizing actors at a distance.

Second, the 2020 regional call for circular economy projects awarded this year 8 projects in the field of bioeconomy.

Third, a steering committee of elected representatives of the Regional Council validated in July 2020 the creation of a regional bioeconomic strategy by mobilizing the departments concerned. A technical committee planed in November 2020 will determine the high-potential sectors to be developed.

Lastly, progress has been made in the setting up of a doctoral thesis to look for the potentialities of the circular bioeconomy in the region from a territorial metabolism perspective.
