INTERREG EUROPE Cooperation Programme

Priority axis 4 Environment and resource efficiency

Specific objective 4.1 Conservation, protection, promotion and development of natural and cultural heritage

Project title: Blue and Green Infrastructure for Sustainable Cities

Project acronym: Blue Green City

The Blue Green City partnership consisting of 8 regions in the European Union is implementing the “Blue and Green Infrastructure for Sustainable Cities” project between 01.08.2019 – 31.07.2022, within the INTERREG EUROPE Cooperation Programme.

The project aims to promote green and blue infrastructures as an integral part of a local/regional natural heritage preservation strategy. Blue Green City seeks to increase awareness and knowledge of the concept of ecosystem services and of the value of green and blue infrastructures through project events, such as workshops and training sessions. This will be accomplished through a process of interregional learning and a strong collaboration in finding common solutions to common challenges posed by climate change, in particular by sharing experience and exchanging good practices. It is in this context that Blue Green City aligns with the EU Green Infrastructure Strategy and with the EU 2020 Biodiversity Strategy, referring to the important role that green and blue infrastructures play in protecting, conserving and enhancing the EU’s natural capital, by providing functional ecological connectivity between cities and peri-urban protected areas.

On the 24th and 25th September 2019, the Kick-off meeting was organized and hosted by the Lead partner – Metropolis Nice Côte d’Azur – Euromed Cities Network. At this event, the organizers presented the project, the project partners and expected outputs, defined the concrete contribution of each partner to the implementation of the project, and started the interregional learning and exchange of experience.
