The second Interregional Learning Event took place on 12-13th December 2017 in Valkenburg aan de Geul, hosted by Tourist Board South Limburg (VVV Zuid-Limburg) . The theme of the event was "The valorization of attractions through marketing, territorial branding and quality schemes". The event included a half-day public thematic workshop to present Good Practices (GPs) from the different regions on Tuesday 12th December 2017, followed by a restricted focus group for project partners only to evaluate and discuss the GPs. The focus group deepened the analysis through highly interactive sessions where each GP is separately reviewed. The relevance of the GPs had been assessed according to several criteria such as their level of innovativeness, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability and transferability.
To consolidate learning, the event was complemented on the 12th and 13th December afternoon with several study visits to operative facilities to get to know some of the proposed South Limburg GPs: Christmas in South Limburg and the blog sabbatical “Limburg lonkt”. The first day, the partners visited the Christmas town Valkenburg which was listed in CNN’s Top 15 of the best places in the world to spend Christmas. Underground the group visited the unique Christmas markets in the Municipal Cave and the Velvet Cave and MergelRijk, where dozens of informative stories about marlstone and caves are told. Above the ground they explored the best restaurants of Valkenburg during a culinary walking tour ‘Route d’Amuse’ and watch the fascinating Christmas Parade with its illuminated floats and beautifully costumed dancers trough the streets of this Christmas Town. The second day the partners saw the other side of the region South Limburg: Urban Heerlen with its Street Art and Holy Moly festival. The city of Heerlen has been elected as number one event city of The Netherlands.
