The fifth Interregional Learning Event (ILE) of the CAPonLITTER project, was organized by the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA), the German project partner, and it took place on 13 April 2021 with the title “How regulatory instruments can be used to prevent specific items of marine litter”.
The Associaton Sunce was the invited stakeholder by PP3-IRENA - Istrian Regional Energy Agency to present their experience on the aforementioned topic.
Association Sunce was founded in 1998 by the group of Split intellectuals as a response to the growing need for an independent and expert body that will offer solutions to environmental issues and nature protection. Today Sunce is known, at the national and international level, as one of the leading organizations for the protection of nature and environment in Croatia.
Ms Tea Kuzmičić Rosandić from the Association Sunce has presented on the 5th ILE two very successful projects, Plastic Smart Cities Croatia and For plastic free Croatian Islands, both aiming at reducing the use of disposable plastics, as well as reducing plastic pollution in the Adriatic and therefore the Mediterranean Sea.
Plastic Smart Cities Croatia is conducted by the Association Sunce Split in cooperation with WWF Mediterranean and it aims to reduce plastic waste in the sea. The project lasts for two years and involves municipalities that will contribute to the reduction of plastic footprint in various segments of social life and the local community through the implementation of project activities and encourage the use of alternative solutions for waste plastics. The project also seeks to raise awareness of citizens and guests about plastic waste.
For plastic free Croatian Islands it the project funded by Beyond Med Association. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to reducing the use of disposable plastics, as well as reducing plastic pollution in the Adriatic and therefore the Mediterranean Sea, by implementing sustainable waste management measures based on the principles of reducing, reusing, recycling in the municipality of Sali on Dugi otok and Stari Grad on the island Hvar.
