Breakfast webinar series EU Green Week 2021

Decentralized and ‘soft’ policy instruments in support of the circular economy

25th of May, 9.00-10.30 am (The webinar language will be English)

During the second webinar of the Deep dives series, participants will be given the opportunity to gain inspiration and exchange views on a few ‘soft’ policy instruments that are successfully being deployed at the decentralized level to support the circular transition. After a short plenary meeting, you are invited to join one of the following topic discussions:

– Circular hubs that boost circular (and social) entrepreneurship at the local level: These circular hubs focus on networks where stakeholders – social businesses, SMEs and local government – meet each other and test concrete cooperation. You will learn more about the circular hubs supported by the European Social Fund/Circular Flanders, with first-hand witnesses from Flanders and the Netherlands.

Speakers: Katrijn Siebens (Circular Flanders), Tony Schoen (Circulair Werkspoorkwartier Utrecht), Mieke Frans (Smart Loops Provincie Vlaams-Brabant

– Regional and local subsidy mechanisms for circular economy projects: We offer a behind-the-scenes look at financial support mechanisms at the regional and local level. What is the scope and aim of your support? How would you design a process to evaluate and select potential projects?

Speakers: Miranda Geusens (Circular Flanders), Nicolas Moerman (Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen), Luc Spronck (Sowalfin)

– Developing local roadmaps for buildings and neighborhoods in favor of a circular economy, taking climate policy as a starting point. Climate and smart city policy can act as leverage for circular economy projects. We provide examples of circular projects related to the built environment and energy sector that are set up at the regional or local level within the framework of energy and climate action or smart city policy plans, think of the development of Positive Energy Neighborhoods, increasing the renovation rate, or improving the capacity of buildings to adapt to changing needs.

Speakers: Michiel Ritzen (VITO), Maarten De Groote (VITO), Carolin Spirinckx (VITO), Julie Poppe (Mechelen), Niels Kinds (Roeselare)
