Between 12th and 14th July 2017, the Lake Konstanz Foundation in Germany will host representatives from the other six COALESCCE partner regions for the first of a number of study visits.
Over the past six months, the project partners have been researching the community energy sectors in their respective regions, and the conference at Lake Konstanz will provide an opportunity for the partners to compare their initial results.
Lake Konstanz was chosen for this first study visit as Germany is well established as the globally leading country for community energy, and the COALESCCE partners will be able to see many community energy initiatives in action. This will help to inspire action in the regions where community energy is more of a challenge due to policy constraints, or where there has not been much development in the sector.
The conference will also establish a programme of Peer Review visits for the remainder of Phase 1 of the COALESCCE project, to enable each partner to benefit from the experience and best practice of the other six regions. The Lake Konstanz conference will set the bar and the scene for the rest of the COALESCCE project
Visits:
Windpark Verenafohren
Wind, energy supplier cooperation
First wind farm in the lake Constance region. Long lasting participation process and large acceptance.
Cooperation in IG Hegauwind with local energy suppliers, the IG Hegauwind is an initiative from German- Swiss energy supplier and local energy cooperatives.
Bioenergiedorf Büsingen
Bioenergy, solar thermal system support, community
Büsingen am Hochrhein has a new, 100% regenerative district heating network. The project of the solarcomplex AG has model character: While in the winter a big biomass boiler does the main work, the large solar pv system takes over in the summer half-year. The solar system is divided in two nearly 500 m² collector fields in the open land and additional 100 m² collectors in the facade of the boiler house.
Solarpark Mooshof, Stockach
Solar, join venture, environmental protection
Joint venture between regional energy suppliers, renewable energy cooperative, private investor
Power 4,5 MW
Cooperation with local conservation organization to develop care concept for local plant species below the solar panels.
Bioenergiedorf Möggingen, Radolfzell
Bioenergy, community,
Communal bioenergy village. Energy supplier from a nearby biogas plant. District heating system run by the communal energy supplier. Interesting process to create acceptance for the project.
Ufer 39, Wallhausen
Energy efficiency in gastronomy, communal energy supplier
Tourism plays an important role in the lake Constance region. Hotels and gastronomy are aware of the meaning of energy savings. Communal energy supplier offer different solutions for restaurants and hotels.

Wood gasification, sustainability management, private-public cooperation, communal energy supplier, energy efficiency in building
The 45 hectares Mainau Island lies just off the shores of Lake Constance the far south-west of Germany, close to Switzerland and Austria. The Arboretum is over 150 year old with giant sequoias helping you to relax and enjoy nature seasons. Around a million tulips, rhododendrons, scented roses, perennials and colorful dahlias bloom in the park and gardens. The Teutonic castle completed in 1746 and the castle church St. Marien are architectural highlights of the Baroque era. The Island has adopted a unique energy concept, which tries to save energy on a large scale and to supply the energy from renewable sources. For that purpose, the management decided to produce most of the required energy on the island.
