The European Commission invites national and regional public authorities, industry, civil society and social partners with an interest in successful transformation of coal mining regions to the launch of the Coal Regions in Transition Platform. DECARB’s Greek partner, the Regional Association of Local Governments of Western Macedonia, will participate. So will the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy of the State of Brandenburg, the project’s German partner.
As part of the Clean Energy for All Europeans Package, a number of actions were announced to boost the clean energy transition by bringing more focus on social fairness, new skills and financing for the real economy. The European Commission is now launching a Platform on Coal Regions in Transition to help regions with coal mining activities identify, develop and implement projects with the potential to kick-start a viable economic and technological transformation, and to enable multi-stakeholder dialogue on policy framework and regulations. The conference to launch this Platform will take place on December 11, 2018 in Strasbourg, France.
The many high-level speakers include Maroš Šefčovič, European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union, and Corina Crețu, European Commissioner for Regional Policy. The event will be chaired by Dominique Ristori, Director General, DG ENER.
