When we visited Riga for the partnership meeting in October 2018, we heard from Dita Danosa about the plans to create a single dedicated body for design promotion in Latvia. By the end of the year, the Latvian Design Centre (LDC) was established. Its role is to promote the use of design in business and industry, collect information in the field of design, provide consultations, coordinate cooperation among the design ecosystem participants, and promote Latvian design in Latvia and abroad. LDC is an active member of the Latvian Design for Innovation stakeholder group.

Establishment of a single institution for design promotion and coordination of the support activities was one of the ambitions of the Latvian design strategy. Six months on, the Centre's activities are already in full swing.  It has recently organised a workshop “The value of design in business: the experience of Latvian companies”, where leaders of three different companies – PAA, CUBE and Aerodium discussed design practices and success stories in their businesses.

PAA is one of the first and leading manufacturers of bathing creations in the Baltic States. CUBE is digital advertising agency with over 14 years of experience in web design, interactive digital solutions and creative campaigns. And AERODIUM is one of the world’s leading producers of vertical wind tunnels and the global leader in flight show organisation.

LDC is also very active on an international stage. It has recently become one of 49 members of The Bureau of European Design Associations (BEDA) from 25 member states. BEDA’s vision is for design to be embraced across Europe as a driver of sustainable growth and prosperity. BEDA celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
