Preparations of the new research and innovation programme for the European Union had ambition to be the biggest co-creation programme in the world. The co-design activities undertaken in the process over the summer and autumn 2019 indeed look impressive. The initial online consultation was open to the whole world and between 28 June 2019 and 4 October 2019 gathered over 6,800 responses.
Those views, together with in-depth co-design sessions, the comments and suggestions provided by over 4,000 participants during the European Research and Innovation Days (Brussels, 24-26 September 2019) directly informed the Horizon Europe's strategic planning process.
Now, European Commission has published a revised document 'Orientations towards the first Strategic Plan for Horizon Europe' that incorporates all opinions collected from large community of stakeholders, and is seeking a final feedback until 17 November 2019.
We are very pleased to see design being used as a method do develop Horizon Europe programme, and across the Strategic Plan as horizontal capacity to co-create user-centred solutions in fields like healthcare and well-being, security, smart cities, new materials, advanced computing or circularity.
