Partners from France, Hungary and Italy took part in the Study Visit in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. The Study Visit in the Canary Islands has been organized by Innovalia Association on December 13-16, 2021. Initially, a virtual study visit was done in April 2021, because of the pandemic. Although there were partners who were unable to visit our region in person, everybody was able to attend the online version last April.

During the first day, the meeting was held at the Innovalia office in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. First part of the best practice “Smart Tourism Destination” was introduced to the guests. It was a presentation of the initiative “Technarte Residency Tenerife” for the development of international “art and technology” residencies which aim at linking art, culture and technology.

After the meeting, project partners visited the Institute for Technology and Renewable Energies (ITER), specifically ITER’s technology division and the bioclimatic houses. ITER’s technology division consists of a highly-qualified multidisciplinary team researching on ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) and other state-of-the-art technologies as for example Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, to help society addressing challenges such as those posed by climate change, the digital skills’ gap or the rising demands of an ageing population and sustainable tourism. An important element of the visit was the second part of the best practice “Smart Tourism Destination”, with a meeting between creators and coordinators of “Technarte Residency Tenerife” giving the opportunity to exchange observations and experiences among partners.

In the afternoon, the partners visited the “Casa del Capitán Museum House” where there is an interactive module, as well as an immersive room and the 3D viewing of the main pieces of the museum’s collection. This was a good example of how to get that the user feel immersed in the virtual world they are exploring.

On the second day, participants discovered the best practice “FIWARE Digital Innovation Hub for Business Acceleration (FiiHUB)”. During the meeting, the new features of FiiHUB were introduced as well as the evidence of success of the project in the Macaronesia Region achieved to date. Also, the potential transfer to other regions was explained, and partners could ask directly their doubts in relation with it.

Finally, the last part of the best practice “Smart Tourism Destination” was presented, specifically, the “Director Plan of Tenerife”, about the main technology and innovation axes that will help Tenerife to find alternatives to tourism, a complement to the economy of the island. The day ended with the best practice “Public Private Partnership” (CIDIHUB)”. This initiative was presented to participants as an example of how to bring digital technologies as Digital Realities, closer to regional industry. Finally, in order to facilitate future cooperation between Digitourism partners and CIDIHUB stakeholders, an exchange session was carried out.
