Hydrogen for Hydrogen Valley of Valcamonica will be produced in Brescia, at the waste to energy plant. In particular, next to the waste to energy plant will be realized an electrolyzer, a large electrochemical cell that will allow to convert electrical energy into chemical energy. The realization of the electrolyzer will allow to take the thermal energy produced by the combustion of waste and biomass to produce hydrogen that, at least initially, will be used to power the new hydrogen trains on the Brescia-Iseo-Edolo line that will replace the current diesel trains. The project has already started and has received initial funding from the European Union, and is now awaiting authorization. The hydrogen that will be produced by the waste to energy plant will be green and it is expected that the production will start by the end of 2024 or in the very first months of 2025. This means that the construction of the electrolyzer will have to start within 12 months.
