On July 7, 2020, a representative of Coventry University Enterprises Ltd and one from Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH), both partners of the e-smartec project, attended an online discussion organised by the Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform on the topic of ‘Making public transport safe and attractive in the COVID pandemic’.

The participants shared Good Practices from around Europe related to public transport and COVID. In particular, CUE Ltd presented one of the initiatives implemented in the West Midlands region from one of the local authorities, Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 virus on public transport.

TfWM launched a survey asking residents their views on some proposed changes to the network post lockdown to ensure that the transport network and other services meet their needs. The deadline for responses was July 1, 2020.

The group discussion led to a list of measures and practices that regions should implement to improve the safety and comfort of travellers.
