The meeting took place on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 9.30am in the office of Aufbauwerk. A total of five representatives from Aufbauwerk, the Administrative District of Leipzig, the City of Leipzig and Grüner Ring Leipzig (regional cooperation of cities and municipalities) participated in the meeting. The main topics were the cycling route of Grüner Ring which is used as Good Practice in the project and is planned to be incorporated in the action plan as well as a big Learning Event for the ECO-CICLE project that will be hosted by Aufbauwerk.
After a short introduction to the ECO-CICLE topic by Aufbauwerk, Ms. König presented the cycling route of Grüner Ring. There is an outer and an inner route. The inner route is planned to be dismissed. The outer route though should be improved tremendously throughout the next years. The route goes through Leipziger New Lakeland and the Administrative District of Leipzig. Various infrastructure measures are being anticipated to improve the route itself and its reachability, mainly from Leipzig City. Ms. Haunstein from the District and Mr. Albrecht from the City of Leipzig shared their insights and ideas for the cycling route. The participants agreed that a study about Grüner Ring cycling route should be implemented in preparation for Aufbauwerk’s action plan. Ms. König and Aufbauwerk will discuss details in the next weeks.
As Grüner Ring, the District and the City are heavily involved in improving cycling infrastructure and offers, it is discussed to include them in the ECO-CICLE Learning Event in spring 2020. For the event all project partners will come to Leipzig and take part in a workshop and a study visit. The event will be organized by Aufbauwerk with the support of Grüner Ring Leipzig. During the stakeholder meeting, the date for the workshop was set for May 5, 2020. Grüner Ring will share a list of regional stakeholders and experts that are suitable to participate in the event. The workshop will start with an input presentation from a cycling expert. Here, a representative from ADFC (General German Bicycle Association) would be desired. The second major part will be a panel discussion with cycling experts and regional stakeholders. An anticipated set of panel participants was elaborated and Aufbauwerk will reach out to invite them. Ms. König agrees to take care of a suitable location for the event. She will also support Aufbauwerk in planning a study visit, following the workshop. A cycling tour along one of Leipzig’s several lakes is foreseen.
The meeting participants agrees to take further steps soon to plan the study in preparation of the action plan and the Learning Event in May.
