The meeting took place on Friday, May 8, 2020 at 9.30am in the office of Aufbauwerk. A total of five representatives from Aufbauwerk, Grüner Ring Leipzig (regional cooperation of cities and municipalities) and StadtLabor (office for city, regional and traffic planning as well as consulting) participated in the meeting. The main topic was the preparation of the action plan. The meeting was led by Aufbauwerk.
To bring all stakeholders up to date, Aufbauwerk gave a short update to the project and explained one of the major outcomes, the action plan. The action plan will contain two to three concrete measures to address the selected policy instrument. To define the exact measures, an event was supposed to be held in May, organized with the support of Grüner Ring Leipzig and StadtLabor.
Aufbauwerk already defined the general direction of the action plan. The actions will aim at supporting and further improving the regional flagship cycling route in Leipziger New Lakeland within the frame of the 2030 Charta. To promote and influence cycling tourism within the boundaries of the Charta, the development of a regional flagship cycling route will be executed in cooperation with Grüner Ring Leipzig (GRL). The route in Leipziger New Lakeland will be developed and improved in terms of infrastructure and tourism offers to increase cycling tourism in this natural area. In the frame of the stakeholder meeting, Ms. König from GRL elaborated these ideas one more time and thereby underlined the cooperation with Aufbauwerk and the ECO-CICLE project.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the related restrictions in Germany, the planned event to further narrow down the actions for the ECO-CICLE plan could not take place as foreseen. Thanks to an extension to hand in the action plan, the event could be postponed. StadtLabor presented the new concept during the stakeholder meeting. The event will be executed in two rounds of workshops, involving a variety of regional stakeholders which are selected by GRL. A first workshop will take place in early June with ca. 14 participants, during which general weaknesses and potentials of the existing cycling route in Leipziger New Lakeland will be elaborated and discussed. During a second workshop in late June, selected opportunities – inspired by best-practices from the project - will be presented and concrete measures for improvement defined with the help of regional stakeholders. Suitable measures will be included in the ECO-CICLE action plan from Aufbauwerk which will be handed in by the end of August.
