EU CYCLE Integrated Cycling Planning Guide was officially launched at Velo-city 2021 conference in Lisbon! 

The Velo-city conference took place in Lisbon this year and was a great opportunity for the EU CYCLE project to launch its deliverable – the Integrated Cycling Planning Guide

The guide was presented as part of the session "EU Funds for cycling: an enormous and growing opportunity” that was focused on the process to attract more investments for cycling, good practices and cycle route network planning.

Fabian Küster, Director of Advocacy and EU Affairs at ECF presented a very ambitious target of €6bn for cycling for 2021 – 2027 MFF and underlined the importance of having explicit references to cycling as well as other important success factors for unlocking EU investments.

I would like to use this opportunity to encourage everyone to contact your Managing Authorities as soon as possible. Identify relevant cycle investment projects, push for inclusion of explicit references to cycling in Partnership Agreements and specific investments, output indictors and budget lines in Operational Programs, and ask for at least 10% of transport investments to be allocated to cycling!’’ – Fabian Küster, Director of Advocacy and EU Affairs at ECF.

The session included as well the presentation of two good practices from France and Poland.

Olivier Schneider, the President of FUB talked about the campaigns for more EU investments into cycling in the French regions and its success and underlined the importance of the collaboration between the territories as well as the expertise in the field.


Wanda Nowotarska, Secretary of the Cycle Mobility Team, Convention of Marshals West Pomerania Region presented how they are building a regional cycle route network in the West Pomeranian Region, Poland and the lessons they have learned along the way. 


Aleksander Buczyński, Policy Officer - Infrastructure at ECF, talked about the dos and don’ts when it comes to regional cycle route network planning, included as a separate chapter in the EU CYCLE Integrated Cycling Planning Guide.

He gave the audience details regarding types of regional networks, specific challenges, governance and financing as well as prioritization strategies.
