Addressing the qualitative and quantitative shortages on the labour market in cross border regions

Thursday 25 November 2021, 14:30 - 15:00, SOCIAL

In this communication https://ec.europa.eu/regional_policy/en/information/publications/communications/2017/boosting-growth-and-cohesion-in-eu-border-regions) DG Regio of the EC describes how internal border regions make out a 40% of the Union's territory and close to 30% of the EU population. However, border regions generally perform less well economically than other regions within a Member State. In the communication DG Regio states that if only 20% of the existing obstacles in cross border regions were removed, border regions would gain 2% in GDP. With this projectidea we focus on the cross border labour market. We want to improve the implementation of regional development policies that address quantitative and qualitative shortages on the cross-border labour market, through the exchange of experience on the identification, dissemination and transfer of good practices among regional policy actors. Specific objectives at this point: To exchange best practices and gain insight into policies implemented in other EU regions in relation to: • strengthening cross-border mobility on the labour market • promoting cross-border mobility of students, trainers and labour force • strengthening the cooperation and coordination between the education and the labour market • improving skills and lifelong learning • improving the quality of training by focusing on dual learning • training the teachers to update their skills and competences according to the latest trends • increasing the attractiveness of shortage occupations • reskilling/upskilling of the unemployed for the shortage occupations
