project idea 'Tourism in Balance'

Thursday 25 November 2021, 13:00 - 13:30, SMART 1

The tourism sector has been in the spotlight in recent years. Until the Covid-19 pandemic, there was (too) much growth in tourism in the Netherlands but also in other EU countries. In many countries, the policy was aimed at promoting their own country in order to attract more visitors. We can now state that 'more' is not always, and certainly not everywhere, better. Aim of the project; The aim of the project is to prevent/recover the damage to the environment and society caused by over-tourism by developing new tourism strategies (choices, policies and measures) that match the challenges and needs of the participating partners and that can serve as an example for other destinations in Europe. Possible activities; 1. developing policy strategies, tools, methods, measures and instruments 2. small-scale pilot projects aimed at influencing tourism pressure (e.g. marketing and accessibility measures, influencing visitor behaviour) 3. small pilot projects aimed at influencing the social support capacity (compensation of residents, increasing the involvement and/or control of residents) 4. Monitoring
