Dolj County Council is the authority of the local public administration in Romania, established at County level for the coordination of the activity of the communal, town and municipal councils, in order to achieve the public services of County interest. The County Council is composed of elected councilors by universal, equal, direct, secret and freely expressed vote, under the conditions established by the Law. The Craiova Art Museum was founded in 1954. It is the main art museum in Craiova and is a significant tourist attraction for the city. A major attraction of the museum is the gallery dedicated to Constantin Brâncuși, exhibiting six of his early sculptures (including variants of his best-known works): Vitellius (1898), Miss Pogany (1902), The Vainglory (1905), Boy's Head (1906), The Kiss (1907), and Woman Torso (1909). The Museum of Oltenia Craiova was founded on 1st of April 1915, as a result of passion and dedication of some of the most important families in Craiova, but especially after the tireless efforts of the famous cultural personality that was Ştefan Ciuceanu. Museum of Oltenia Craiova is a public cultural institution with legal personality, of regional importance, in the service of society, which collects, conserves, researches, restores, communicates and exhibits, with the purpose to know, educate and recreate the spiritual and material evidences of the existence and development of human communities as well as of the surrounding environment. Museum of Oltenia Craiova is subordinated to Dolj County Council. Museum activity is funded from state budget allocations or local budgets, as appropriate, as well as income from fees for services, donations and sponsorships or from other specific activities.
