Podkarpackie voivodship occupies fourth place in the country in terms of the percentage of protected areas (44%, including 2 large national parks, 1 International Biosphere Reserve, 10 landscape parks, 96 nature reserves, 13 protected landscape areas in the region) and forested lands (37%). The specificity of this polish region, the growing interest of filmmakers in the placement of their production in this area and the activities of the Podkarpackie Film Commission in attracting new film and TV undertakings were an inspiration to the subject of interregional Workshops of the Green Screen project that took place on October 24, 2019 in Rzeszów.
The main purpose of the event was the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of environmentally friendly film and TV production. The workshop topics included shooting in green and legally protected areas, innovative solutions in the field of sustainable film production, sustainability in cinemas and good practices regarding cooperation with service providers for the film and TV sectors.
The event gathered many experts from different countries within Europe, representing project partners, ‘Green Screen’ sustainability consultants and external specialists, i.e. Mr. Harvey Edgington representing the National Trust, a charity founded in 1895 preserving and looking after special places throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland and Mr. Flem Labarque representing the NATUURINVEST that manages forest, nature and greenery in Flanders in Belgium.
The workshop was attended by representatives of companies involved in film and advertising production in Poland, as well as the team of the Podkarpackie Film Commission and the Krakow Film Commission. The exchange of experience between participants of the workshop was an inspiration to consider the possibilities and benefits of implementing good practices in the field of eco film production in Poland, as well as the difficulties related to their implementation on regional and national level.
