The Institute of Technology Sligo is hosting an online event for the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) Sustainable Energy Community about smart meters on Thursday 3rd December at 2pm (GMT).

Smart meters are the next generation of electricity meters and will replace older mechanical meters. Using digital technology, the meters will give users and the electricity supplier accurate information on energy usage throughout the day. When fully operational, smart meters will bring benefits to the consumer, the environment, and the economy.

Lisa Fahy Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) and Eoghan Barrett Electricity Supply Board Networks (ESBN) will discuss Ireland’s smart meter programme in the context of Europe’s energy policies and targets, how smart meters will enable better management of electricity network flows through Time of Use (ToU) tariffs and how the customer will interact with the energy market. There will be an opportunity to ask questions during the webinar.
