Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, through the Environmental Studies Centre, are launching two campaigns to allow citizens to experience the use of e-bikes for work commutes for two weeks, and the use of electric cargo bikes targeted at both companies and individuals for 10 days. The joint campaigns aim to promote and communicate the benefits of replacing current fossil-fuelled fleet of vehicles and making the switch towards low carbon vehicles. The campaigns offer a 4-month period of running time dedicated to the benefit of the community.

To be able to participate in the campaigns, participants must commit to share their experiences through various communication channels, mainly on social network platforms. The participants will also receive a training course guided by a specialist in road safety education. At the end, a survey will be released which will aid the City Council to gather information on mobility habits and the intention to change means of transport by the citizens of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

In last year's campaigns, 59 workers from 14 companies had the opportunity to travel to their workplaces for 15 days, while 18 individuals and 8 professionals were able to use a cargo bicycle for a week.

In satisfaction surveys conducted after the campaigns were finalised, people who used electric bicycles rated this mode of travel to work at 4.2/5. Those who used the cargo bikes gave this mode of transport a 4.37/5. In both cases the survey reflected the need to continue working to adapt the city to this type of mobility.

Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council is responding to community participation and interest by supporting the city’s journey towards a greener and more sustainable future.

The campaign to promote the use of cargo bikes is funded by the H2020 CityChangerCargoBike Project http://cyclelogistics.eu/
