“Chatbots, opportunities for companies and public administration” is the title of the event organised by the Autonomous Province of Trento in collaboration with Trentino Sviluppo, the local development agency, for today the 30th of January.

The seminar is addressed to the stakeholders of the territory (mainly start-ups, companies, research and public administration) as one of the steps of the OSIRIS project in order to co-create a local action plan aimed at boosting a data driven economy in Trentino.

According to Wikipedia, a chatbot is “a computer program which conducts a conversation via auditory or textual methods. Such programs are often designed to convincingly simulate how a human would behave as a conversational partner”.

These software programs use messaging services (for example, Facebook, Telegram) as interfaces with customers/users to execute a specific and determined number of tasks useful for providing them with services and information.

The chatbots have been starting to replace the development of apps, thanks to their "lightness", flexibility, integrability. In addition, chatbots can gain important support from the increasing availability of open data.

This event aims to describe the business opportunities related to the introduction of this technology. There will be an introduction about the topic: available technologies; the interaction between chatbot and open data; advantages of chatbots compared to other applications. In the second part of the event, examples of chatbots already operating in the Trentino area and applied to various sectors of the economy (museum services, health services, industry 4.0, egov, gaming) will be presented.

During the day there will be the launch of the “Trentino Open Data Hackabot”, the hackathon addressed to students, companies and public administration with the aim of creating chatbots based on the use of the open data of the Province of Trento.

These events are possible thanks to the collaboration between the Province of Trento within the OSIRIS project and the local stakeholders team made of public entities and private companies related to innovation and ICT.
