A key objective of the PERFECT project is making an economic case for the multiple benefits of green infrastructure based on the jobs and growth agenda. The first Expert Paper has been launched which explains how to make this economic case, and outlines the physical and mental health benefits of green infrastructure.

Green infrastructure has a vital role to play in the success of regions across Europe, not least because of its impact in promoting health and happiness. Evidence shows that – as well as the social benefits of a healthier population – there is a great benefit to the economy through increased productivity.

At the second PERFECT partner meeting in Ljubljana in September 2017, Ece Ozdemiroglu who is a Member of the Adaptation Sub Committee of the UK Committee on Climate Change gave an expert presentation on valuing green infrastructure benefits. Partners showed a high level of interest in adopting the techniques to promote to policy makers the need to invest more in green infrastructure.

Following the presentation, this Expert Paper has been written by Ece and her colleagues at eftec, Erin Gianferrara and Janine Boshoff. It will be used by the partners as they develop their Action Plans, to be published at the end of Phase 1, and promoted to their stakeholders to show the positive impact of multi-functional green infrastructure in creating successful regions across Europe.
