The PERFECT partnership has published an expert paper on 'green infrastructure and biodiversity' which has been written by Zuzana Hudekova from Bratislava Karlova Ves Municipality, Slovakia.

The paper considers the importance of urban green infrastructure for the protection of biodiversity and in encouraging improved and more widespread planning for – and investment in – green infrastructure in our cities. It makes the case for preserving and promoting biodiversity, outlines the relevant EU policies and provides guidance on how to maximise the biodiversity of different green spaces. It also lists some of the funding opportunities for biodiversity and green infrastructure projects.

The PERFECT expert papers are intended for an audience of policy-makers and practitioners working in local public sector organisations, as well as national and international organisations who are responsible for setting policy frameworks and investment strategies.

The PERFECT partnership has already published three other expert papers:

  • ‘Health, wealth and happiness – the multiple benefits of green infrastructure’ by Erin Gianferrara and Janine Boshoff, eftec
  • ‘Planning for green infrastructure – the Green Space Factor and lessons from Europe’ by Peter Massini, Greater London Authority and Henry Smith, TCPA
  • ‘Place-making and green infrastructure’ by Fiona Howie, TCPA
