The PLASTECO project has achieved a wider impact on Rethymno citizens’ recycling habits. More specifically, this positive impact is also presented in the recycling of clothes and shoes, which is indicative of their environmental awareness and has ranked Rethymno in 5th place nationwide among 60 Municipalities in the last year. 122,235 kg of recycling shoes and clothes were collected during 2021 in the red bins which have been placed in central parts of the city and suburbs. The ranking was based on the total kilos and not the kilo/inhabitant and since Rethymno is not a large municipality, which makes the achievement even higher. The private company which has placed the bins free of charge has offered Rethymno 10 more to expand the network. Rethymno keeps on promoting recycling by presenting a measurable environmental and social footprint.
