Open Innovation Platform

About this good practice
Today the platform counts over 7000 participants, both from the R+I community and from the large public, lending substance to the principle of multi-actor, public engagement. The platform offers a broad range of tools to inform and engage, promote the competences of local actors, design and manage research and open innovation projects, for the dissemination and valorization of results.
The software framework powering the platform has been released recently under a free, open source license with the specific aim to facilitate its adoption in similar or complementary user scenarios and promote collaboration among them (other Regions, company networks, clusters, large collaborative projects etc.) and to maximize content sharing and interoperability. Thus valorisation, training and networking actions are necessary in order to promote the use of the tool at all level: locally, nationally and internationally. www.open2.0.regione.lombardia.it
Expert opinion
This is an interesting example of successful attraction and involvement of citizens and organisations in an open innovation environment. The tools provided through the platform are comprehensive, and the open source licensing of the software illustrates the ambition to promote uptake and expanded collaboration and sharing outside the region. As noted, the mindset of stakeholders may prove a challenge for open innovation progress, but the transferability should be helped by the lessons learnt implementing the platform.
