About this good practice
Skills Academy of Piła is an author and innovative project implemented by Piła Commune in cooperation with Inwest-Park – a municipal company.The project aims to gain experience and provide appropriately qualified personnel for employers. For many years a trend has been observed in Piła Commune, which is the outflow of young residents -who remain in large cities after graduation. The following project aims to enable young people from secondary schools (potential employees) to get acquainted with the profile of entrepreneurs offering interesting jobs often associated with modern technologies and smart specializations. The project aims, among other things, to interest students in the profile of local employers and technologies implemented by companies by organizing meetings in companies, workshops and several months of cooperation to create promotional material by teams that will be assessed and awarded at the gala, which summarizes the project. Students, as a result of participation in the project acquire key competences to prepare a marketing plan and an advertising film and also gain knowledge about technologies implemented in companies. The main stakeholders of the project are local companies whose representatives cooperate with the group of students from secondary schools.As a result, students gain experience by confronting the theory with practise and companies reap the benefits of students creativity and get the chance to promote their profiles of activity, technologies.
Resources needed
To put this practice in place there are defined human and financial resources, as: project coordinator and assistant, experts conducting workshops, companies representatives mentoring students, sponsors, one teacher for each team of 3-5 students from schools. Approximate budget is about 15 000 PLN .
Evidence of success
So far 130 students from 10 schools cooperated with 29 entrepreneurs since 2015 in four editions. The fifth anniversary edition 2019/2020 is ongoing. Moreover, the project was awarded as a National Winner and nominated to the European stage in category Promoting the Entrepreneurial Spirit as part of the "European Enterprise Promotion Awards 2019" competition organized by European Commission.
Potential for learning or transfer
Skills Academy of Piła enables the youth to develop abilities of conscious decision of education and career path often related with profiles of entrepreneurs that promote their technologies in the project.The practice might be interesting for regions willing to implement cooperation between local authorities, business and educational institutions by promoting entrepreneurship, which is based on self-employment, creativity, innovation and ability to research and manage projects in order to achieve objectives. In addition, the project affects strengthening and adapting vocational education and training to the needs of the labour market often with reference to smart technologies.Also, in the case of RIS3 in Wielkopolska, the actions implemented through this good practice are complementary to one of the Strategic Programmes of the regional RIS3, namely 'Education for innovation', along with its major aim: "Improvement of innovation competence in the education cycle and lifelong learning".
