This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The research campus focuses on image-guided, minimally invasive methods in the field of medicine. It pursues the goal of optimising the medical treatment methods and thus reducing the high costs in the health care system. The focus is on diseases of oncology, neurology and vascular diseases that occur in the civil society as a result of ageing. The diagnostic and therapeutic procedures should be as patient-friendly, of high quality and concrete as possible.
STIMULATE aims to establish itself as the German Centre for Image-Based Medicine in the future. The co-operation between the economic and scientific partners has a sustainable impact on the work of the research campus. Both short-term and long-term projects are supported by the participating actors.

Resources needed
STIMULATE is one of nine research campuses in Germany funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the “Research campus – public-private partnership for innovation” funding initiative. It is also financed by the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESF and ERDF).
Evidence of success
A cooperation agreement for long-term partnership between Harvard Medical School, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) and the STIMULATE campus, which is closely linked to the bachelor’s and master’s programmes in medical engineering, was signed in June 2018. A scientific exchange programme, joint research projects and an exchange programme for students are planned. In 2017, the start-up Neoscan Solutions GmbH, which cooperates with the research of the STIMULATE campus, was founded.
Potential for learning or transfer
Within the work of RIS3 Saxony-Anhalt, the co-operation between the local economy and the science, which is strong in research, should be sustainable strengthened. Since 2013, the STIMULATE research campus has been promoting the co-operation between the engineering and medicine in order to develop suitable diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
Furthermore, representatives of the campus participate in the work of the lead market “Health and Medicine”. The RIS3 Saxony-Anhalt is a lead market-oriented innovation strategy. The strategy distinguishes between five lead markets, which have been identified as important and forward-looking lead and growth markets on the basis of regional strengths in science and industry.
It is conceivable that the research campus will serve as a model for similar projects within the work of RIS3 Saxony-Anhalt and beyond (e.g. national and transregional).
