This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The amount of used PET bottles is increasing every year and they can be recycled in different type of material. The use of waste as industrial materials of the future is an important asset to reduce CO2 emissions produced in different industrial processes.
Donar is implementing a new approach in furniture production industry: using a technique borrowed from the car industry they have designed and produced two sustainable products made by waste materials.
The first project was Chat Loop, a product designed and made with a purpose to offer best user experience in open spaces, to provide retreat for ‘loud’ phone calls. The goal was to use material that is considered ‘trash’ – felt made from recycled plastic bottles.
The most important product is Nico Less chair, that aims at being a response to the human need to reduce our carbon imprint on the planet and to rediscover waste as an industrial material of the future. Re-thinking a new philosophy of socially responsible, sustainable design, Primoz Jeza Studio has created a chair made of recycled Felt (60% re-cycled PP bottles and 40% non-woven textile). By using just heat and pressure Donor achieved comfortable seating by adapting the shape to the human body. Chair base is made out of metal or wood and is linked to the seat with straps. The Nico Less chairs can be combined in compositions of various lengths or stored in vertical stacks. In 2016 the chair was the winner of the Red Dot Award in Product Design category.

Resources needed
Donor get support from Ministry of Economic Development and Technology within the EU fund for Research and Development for promoting the implementation of research and development programs in amount -147.447 EUR which represents approximately 54 % of the total investment.
Evidence of success
2016 - winner of Red Dot Award in Product Design category. Donar company is developing new products based on the requirements demanding customers in the world markets. Sustainability and eco-friendly products are getting more and more value also in furniture production business. Following this trend they started changing their business policies and value systems. Using new materials connected with fresh and light design made Nico Less very attractive and market demand has exceeded expectations.
Potential for learning or transfer
This GP has a great potential for use. Furniture production industry is mostly traditional and use of new materials has great potential. In Donar company they are aware of this new opportunity and they are developing and preparing new products made from recycled materials. Amount of waste, in our case PET bottles increasing, so new types od materials made from them becoming increasingly used in different industries. New materials are combined with new design seems to be good way to provide sustainability, more value and environment protection.
This GP is replicable and transferrable. Cooperation between designers, developers and producers can lead to new solutions and new products. The approach used with this GP is suitable for various waste stream sectors as well as various manufacturing sectors. The important element that distinct this GP is the fact that they combine environmental conscious production with the high quality design, achieving higher added value.
