Innovative approach for tackling public charging infrastructure
About this good practice
With the expansion of the number of electric vehicles in Koprivnica, and Croatia and Europe in general there is an increased need for reliable, accessible, and cost-effective charging infrastructure. The main premise that led the representatives of the above-mentioned organisations was the fact that people living in multi storey building, and those represent a large number of the housing units in Koprivnica do not have adequate access to the “slow charging” facilities. Therefore, an idea was developed to mount and install AC charges on street light poles located in neighbourhoods with multi storey buildings and by that, allowing the citizens to charge their vehicles overnight, since they do not have the same possibilities as single home owners. Also, the second premise was to use the existing infrastructure and make the whole process more cost effective.
Resources needed
The 3 AC chargers were purchased during 2019., for the total price of 8000 € for the equipment, labour, instalment, testing and certification. The project design was developed by the Regional energy agency North which took the effort of two employees working on the project for three years for 20%.
Evidence of success
The success of the action is obvious, there are requests every day by EV drivers for using the AC chargers.
Potential for learning or transfer
The potential of this action is rather large. Many people do not have the possibility to charge their vehicles overnight. This opens the door for more overnight charging and more energy consumption during the nigh which represents a great relief for the energy systems.
