The Regional Action Plan developed by ESS specifically aims to support Kronoberg County's strategic work to become a Plus Energy County in 2050. This goal means that the production of renewable energy and biofuel exceeds the total energy used in the county, ie. the county becomes self-sufficient (on an annual basis) and can export renewable energy. To reach the Plus energy goal, many pieces must fall into place. The most important components are to stop use fossil fuel and an increased regional production of renewable electricity.

A conversion of the transport sector (including work machines) from petrol and diesel to for example biogas, hydrogen and electricity produced from fossil-free sources must happen. As this will lead to an increased demand for electricity, the sub-goal "More regional electricity production" will be very important to focus on. New electricity production comes largely from wind and solar power, the production of which can vary greatly over time, which means that the stresses on the electricity grid will increase, and storage of electricity will become more important. Hydrogen is considered a key component in energy conversion in Sweden and at EU level. Hydrogen can be used for many purposes; as a fuel in the transport sector and to replace fossil fuels in industrial processes. Hydrogen can also be used to store energy and to equalize the load in the electricity grid.

Energikontor Sydost has within POTEnT identified two important key measures for Kronoberg County to achieve the Plusenergilän goal:

1. Develop a roadmap for hydrogen as a sustainable fuel for transportation.

2. Create a regional cooperation platform to ensure a robust electricity system in Kronoberg
