PriMaaS Lead Partner (University of Aveiro) organized a webinar, with the support of other project partners, on the challenges for regional transport systems and the widespread of sustainable MaaS in the post-pandemic era. The Webinar was attended by around 100 people in the total of two days and with the participation of relevant stakeholders in the world of mobility as a service, which addressed different relevant topics according to their region and the different realities of Mobility as a service, before and after the pandemic and its consequences.

Mobility as a service (MaaS) is generally considered as an efficient solution toward future sustainability. However, the public perception of shared mobility may change significantly in the wake of the SARS-COV-2 pandemic.  Will public transport still be considered the backbone of MaaS? What will be the impact on MaaS after the lockdown/pandemic? What is the vision of the most advanced cities for addressing the challenges of future sustainable mobility? How the most advanced MaaS platforms and urban agencies are looking to position themselves in these challenging times?

A fundamental rethink is needed on the planning of cities and regions to improve the efficiency and sustainability of mobility services - MaaS, and also to meet citizens’ needs. Pioneering Public and private MaaS actors and stakeholders from the PriMaaS project regions discussed challenges for regional transport systems and sustainable MaaS widespread in the post-pandemic era.

The first day of the Webinar, June 29, began with the participation of Piia Karjalainen, Secretary General of MaaS Alliance, who talked about the topic “Towards green and resilient mobility system - how MaaS can help?”, followed by Hans Arby, founder and CEO of UbiGo which covered some relevant topics within the theme “MaaS vs COVID-19 in Stockholm”. Immediately thereafter, Ziv Kabaretti, VP Product of Moovit shared with the public his perspectives regarding “How to adapt quickly and effectively to the new normal”.

On the second day we had Myrsini Glinos, one of the PriMaaS project partners who moderated the webinar, which began with contributions from Somya Joshi, Head of Unit: Governance and Institutions who talked about “The role of Disruptors in the transition to sustainability”, followed by Marco Cagnol, Infomobility & Open Data Manager of Rome Mobility Agency discussed the topic “Impacts generated by social distancing measures on city-wide travel demand, PT and sharing services usage” and Lorenzo Modena, CEO of OpenMove which gave us a preview of the MaaS in the post pandemic era, across the subtopic “MaaS and freedom”.

During the two sessions, questions were being asked to the audience, related to the topics that were being approached, which enabled them to interact with the audience and gather some perspectives also from the people who were attending the webinar. In both days, the final part of the webinar was reserved to answer the questions that the public launched throughout the interventions, and also to ask new questions related to what was being covered.
