General Directorate of Industry and Competitiveness has met in Valladolid representatives of four countries of the European Union with which it collaborates in the EU Project “Prometeus” (Promotion of e-mobility in EU regions) in order to show them the progress of the Region in the electric mobility development.

This initiative is part of the Interreg Europe program and aims to foster sustainable transport plans. It is led by the Executive of Malta -through the Ministry of Transport-. The Regional Government of Castilla y León, the Ministry of Economy and Finance through the General Directorate of Industry and Competitiveness, the governments of Carinthia (Austria), Lazio (Italy) and Prešov (Slovakia), as well as the Polytechnic Institute of Milan (Italy) take part in it; the latter as advisory partner.

PROMETEUS is a project aimed at promoting the extension of electromobility in European territory, a challenge that is consistent with the EU political priorities to push, through structural funds, more efficient and cleaner alternatives to transport.

The initiative has a budget of 1.38 million euros, which are co-financed at 85% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the remaining 15% by the administrations and entities that make up the consortium. In the case of Castilla y León, the amount allocated to the Directorate General of Industry and Competitiveness amounts to 213,495 euros.

The project will be developed in two phases in the period 2017-2021. In the first, the partners will analyze the territorial characteristics to determine the possibilities of deployment of electric mobility, which involves addressing aspects such as the regulations or the incentive regime in force in each region, as well as its provision of infrastructures and non-conventional vehicles. These studies will lead to action plans that, in a second stage, will be subject to evaluation.

In the context of phase one, the Regional Government of Castilla y León has organized three days –April 10, 11 and 12- of work with its European partners in the PROMETEUS project whom have presented the activities developed within their territories during the second half of 2017. For instance, in Castilla y Leon were carried out the meetings in Valladolid and Segovia -in which ecomobility experts presented the initiatives that are being carried out in this field in both provinces- and the event organized by the “Ente Regional de la Energía” (EREN) in León with the aim of disseminating the advantages of electric vehicles.

Field visits

The program has included a field visit to publicize the good practices implemented in the Region, for which the installations of the Valladolid plant of Renault in which the Twizy is manufactured have been chosen; the fleet of electric buses of the City Council of Valladolid – Particularly, the fast charging system designed by Vectia - and the electric motorcycle prototype developed by the company from El Bierzo, Enriding.

Interregional Workshop

After the demonstrations, a debate forum has been held on research and progress in the field of sustainable transport, in which three technological centers of Castilla y León have participated – “Instituto Tecnológico de Castilla y León” (ITCL), “Fundación Cartif “and “Fundación para Investigación y Desarrollo en Transporte y Energía” (Cidaut) -. As well as EREN and the City Council of Valladolid, with their “Moveletur” and “Remourban” projects, respectively.
