The 5th Stakeholder Meeting in Greece was held online on 13th November 2020 and was attended by several representatives of local authorities. After presenting the RECREATE project current activities, including the recent online UK Thematic Workshop and Study Visit hosted by the Lead Partner Coventry University Enterprises Ltd, the detailed plan for the conversion of Astypalea into a green island was showed. This is mainly part of a very large project in cooperation with Volkswagen about the replacement of the island’s municipal and operational vehicles with electric vehicles.
It followed a presentation about INNOTRANS, another project co-financed by the INTERREG EUROPE programme. This described ways of strengthening the innovation capacity of the transport sector in the regions involved and how these were incorporated in the Action Plan of the Central Macedonia Region.
Afterwards, the integrated Intelligent Transport System successfully implemented in the last few years by the Municipality of Rhodes in the island’s public transport was illustrated. This has been realised in the framework of three different projects co-financed under the European cooperation programmes Greece-Cyprus and INTERREG MED.
The meeting ended with a presentation of the ongoing projects of the Hellenic Institute of Transport (IMET) in cooperation with the South Aegean Region that led to a discussion between the participants.
