The RECREATE Project final dissemination event was held within the 6th Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility – CSUM 2022 that took place in Skiathos Island, Greece from 31st August to 2nd September 2022.
The Conference was organised by The University of Thessaly, Department of Civil Engineering, Traffic, Transportation and Logistics Laboratory – TTLog, in collaboration with Eindhoven University of Technology, Technion Israel Institute of Technology, Universidade do Porto, Université du Luxembourg, University of Hawaii at Manoa and University of Southampton. This year’s theme was “Smart Energy for Smart Transport” and covered six thematic areas:
- Electric and clean energy in transportation
- Emerging and innovative technologies in transport
- Active and non-motorized travel
- Equitable, just and inclusive transportation
- Sustainable and resilient supply chain
- Urban planning and transport infrastructure
The main aim of the Conference was the dissemination of knowledge and the exchange of good practices between researchers and practitioners in transportation and mobility.
The RECREATE project final dissemination event was one of the Special sessions of the Conference, Special Session 4: Reinforce Competitiveness of Regional Transport SMEs and took place on Wednesday 31st August 2022. The main aim of the event was to show how the project has mapped transport SME support measures, assessed their effectiveness, and explored the best Good Practices in the sector to ultimately deliver Action Plans and Policy Recommendations to improve the competitiveness of transport SMEs in the four regions involved.
The event started with a presentation about the state of play of the Interreg Europe programme. After a summary of the main results achieved by the Interregional cooperation projects during the period 2014 to 2020, it was showed that, within the projects under the SME competitiveness priority, RECREATE is a niche project, as it is the only one focusing specifically on the transport sector and has given good contribution to the programme and the Policy Learning Platform. The final part of the presentation was dedicated to Interreg Europe 2021-2027 and the new calls.
It followed an overview of the RECREATE project main aim and specific objectives, describing the results achieved during Phase 1 as well as the outputs expected and the additional activities to implement during Phase 2.
The following four presentations showed each Region’s journey through RECREATE, from the analysis of the local and regional contest, to the identification of the best local Good Practices, to the formulation of Policy Recommendations to advice local stakeholders and policy makers and the development of an Action Plan to improve the competitiveness of local Transport SMEs.
The event concluded with a short Question & Answer session.
