More than 30 representatives of municipalities, companies, representatives of the Ministry of Environment and NGOs attended the REDUCES stakeholder meeting organised on 27.11.2019 in Conference Center Flora, Primorski Park, Burgas. The participants were informed about the first Interregional event in Turku in November 2019. EPF and UMG team shared an insight on the background and objectives of the REDUCES project and presented the status quo of circular economy in Bulgaria and the other project partner regions. It was stressed that each region has an own starting point on the path to Circular Economy but at the same time it was noticed that almost all regions face same quite of questions and challenges when starting the project.
The participants found the information about what has been seen during the study visits in Topinpuisto circular economy hub, and in the regional waste management company in Southwest Finland, useful. Municipal ecology experts from all Bulgaria who were also present expressed interest to know more about how a waste management company can work as a platform for circular economy. The presentation of REDUCES raised discussion among the participants.
The conclusion made was that circular economy is a new world for Bulgaria. The challenges are enormous, the clock is ticking and requires immediate actions on both institutional and business level.
