In this phase of REFORM, the Emilia Romagna Region (RER) is working on different actions: the setup of a monitoring centre on sustainable mobility, setup of a sustainable mobility observatory, technical and financial support to the local administration that are adopting and implementing SUMPs.

Since 2019, RER has pursued the development of these actions in different ways.

First, it supported the adoption of SUMPs in the so-called Ceramics District, a special area of the region where high quality ceramics is produced.  The Ceramics district includes four smaller municipalities, for a total of 119 000 inhabitants. The combination of these municipalities into a union is fruitful, since they are neighbors and have similar transport problems and share the cluster of specialised industries There were allocated funding to develop the implementation of sustainable mobility actions, on the condition that they engage in the planning effort of the SUMP.

Second, it worked with the coastal Municipalities of Cattolica and Misano Adriatico to promote and strengthen the transport capacity planning so allow these smaller municipalities (less than 30000 inhabitants) to work on their SUMP. They were encouraged to work together on transport planning and a SUMP as they share similar challenges.

Third, RER is involved a new regional plan to support the renewal of the bus fleets for the LPT: RER allocated new funding for low environmental impact technologies and to foster low carbon mobility.

Four, RER has been working on the definition of a Regional gateway for sustainable mobility, serving and interacting with the Municipalities of Emilia-Romagna region.  All these steps are crucial to support a new planning seasons in the region and in urban contexts of Emilia-Romagna.
