This short documentary about Magdeburg's Fortress was created as part of the Interreg Europe project "Recapture the Fortress Cities" (acronym: RFC). It celebrated its premiere on 20 October 2021 during the study visit of the European RFC project partners in Transylvania. The state capital of Magdeburg has been a project partner since 2019.
Magdeburg's fortifications have basically been a thing of the past since the beginning of the 20th century. In 1912, the status as a fortress was abolished. But the stone witnesses of the past still shape the cityscape today. They have had an impact on the identity of the state capital for centuries and even have a positive influence on today's climate. Some fortress remains are still looking for their future today. The aim of the RFC project is to integrate the fortified cultural heritage into city life, through sustainable revitalisation of the sites. The RFC project creates a European exchange on intelligent and creative uses.
Magdeburg's "Filmkollektiv" implemented the film with a creative concept. With the participation of selected stakeholders in the fortress area, the State Chancellery/ Ministry of Culture of Saxony-Anhalt as well as the Lord Mayor of Magdeburg, a contribution worth seeing has been made to make the topic visible. Thanks to the inclusion of historical re-enactors from the time of the 30 Years' War, Magdeburg's fortress history is told in a particularly lively way. We would like to thank the "Freie Reichsstädter zu Rothenburg", "Dragonarii Altorphina", the "Höchstädter Musketiere" and "Ilow'schen Pulverotte" for their contribution.
