The Slovak SHREC project team reported on energy communities and the best practices from several European cities and regions in the professional conference „Efficient Supply of Heat“, organised by the Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency (SIEA) on October 25-26, 2022. The conference provided a platform for nearly two hundred experts in heating, cooling and renewable energy sources to exchange the best practices and discuss current challenges in heat management.

Amongst the key topics of the conference, the new Slovak national legislation on energy and heat management is noteworthy. The amendment to Act no. 251/2012 Coll. on energy, which entered into force on October 1, 2022, has introduced new players in the electricity and gas markets, including the energy communities. However, the implementing regulation, further specifying the rules of creating and developing the latter, is yet to be adopted. The best practices from other European countries can help raise awareness of the concept of energy communities and define those rules.

The presentation on energy communities has been a part of the national SHREC Action plan, implemented by SIEA and focused on raising awareness of energy communities and their benefits for stakeholders.

The presentation of the Slovak SHREC project team on energy communities, as well as other information on the conference (in the Slovak language), are available at https://www.siea.sk/prezentacie-z-konferencie-efektivne-zasobovanie-teplom/.
