Following its start in August 2019, the Interreg Europe SMART WASTE held its kick-off meeting on 5 September. Project partners representatives were welcomed by Federica Fratoni, the Tuscany Regional Minister for the Environment, in particular, to discuss innovation in waste management in Tuscany. Key experts joined the meeting to showcase examples from other projects such as WINPOL and Life TACKLE.

During this first meeting, partners launched the interregional exchange activities, co-created the shared evaluation methodology the partners will use to analyse the current state of the regional policies and to identify their strengths and failures and instated the SMART WASTE Steering Group, which will drive the project toward its goals.

SMART WASTE seminar, exchange sessions, and study visit were open to project partners and local stakeholders.

“Speed-date” session: partners presented to each other their local/regional innovation context in waste management, with a focus on existing evaluation tools. Partners worked in pairs: 15 minutes date per pair, before changing pair mate.
