Staff developing the Interreg Europe SME POWER Action Plan for WestBIC will be visiting Durham to learn how staff involved in Durham County Council’s Business Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP) engage with SMEs. The aim of the session is to explore how awareness surrounding energy efficiency can be increased and how a communication plan can deliver long-term engagement and relationships with the SMEs.

The agenda will look at how staff involved in BEEP have evolved their communication strategy over six years, highlighting some of the successes and challenges along the way.

Staff from Durham are excited to learn more from the visitors about how developing a place-based approach to energy efficiency can lead to skills development and capacity building in the SME sector.

The visit will also involve a site visit to a nearby business park where the BEEP team were able to use an initial engagement with an SME to lead to nearby units and share good practice in heating and lighting the buildings.
