Among the SMEs involved in the regional stakeholder group, an Energy Champion is selected to represent the regional approach towards a low carbon future, this is done in each policy partner region. The policy partners chose their champion on Semester 2 of the project and collected testimonials from them via video content.

Introducing Juha Simola
He is the Managing Director of Weckman Steel, the largest Finnish specialist company in the field of roofing and roof products. They are also currently developing a new, innovative and energy efficient industrial hall concept for the market, and also other novel products.
Weckman Steel is a forerunner company with strong, cross-cutting ambitions towards energy efficiency, carbon-neutrality and social responsibility. This is reflected on the strategic level as well as in the company’s daily operation, processes, and their final products and services.
A recent example is a comprehensive energy review the company implemented at its plant in Heinola with the support of governmental energy aid grant instrument. Energy Champions bring their field experience to the SME Power Project. They investigate opportunities to begin Action Plan implementation and to make use of SME POWER to improve other aspects of regional policy. In parallel, they consider the knowledge on capacity building shared and consider how this could be promoted in their specific territories.
