Food waste, a war we can fight:

Every year, it is a third of the world food production that is wasted which represents 1.3 billion tons of food.

Considering 800 million people around the globe are suffering from hunger it is a major social and environmental issue. An issue a French girl decide to tackle with. Lucie Bash, an agro-food engineer decided to create a platform allowing every citizen to fight food waste on its own scale.

How does it work?

• Producers:

Too Good To Go is an app where food stores owners can sell their unsold remaining food. Every food store partner proposes “surprise baskets” to consumers at a reduced price and to be picked up at a certain time.

It allows them not only to reduce their food loss but also earning some added revenues and improve their image as a sustainable brand, committed to the protection of the environment. µ

• Consumers:

As for the consumer, it cannot be easier. After the app is installed on your smartphone, you create your profile with your bank details. The program then lists the food stores partners of the initiative, depending on your position. When collecting hours hit, you can go and pick up your “surprise basket” and enjoy a cheaper and saved-from-the-bin meal.

The devil is in the detail:

Nothing is left to chance, the process is socially sustainable from A to Z as you have an option “Give to a homeless” and can give 2€ on the app so a meal can be picked up for a person in need.

And then, the little detail that does it all, you are asked to bring your own container so there is not over packaging created along the way.

Today, Too Good To Go it’s food stores in 8 other countries over Europe and it saves over 3 tons of food every day.
