Birmingham City Council organised an exchange visit to the region with attendee from both Spain and Italy. During the visit attendees were informed about two ESIF funded projects in the regions "ARLI" (Alternative Raw Materials with Low Impact), and "BASIS" (Birmingham and Solihull Industrial Symbiosis ). The ARLI project is targeting Research and Innovation in the region and BASIS is looking to enhance resource efficiency of SME in the region. The ARLI project commenced on 1st July 2017 and BASIS is expected to go to contract shortly. Both these projects were successful in changing the regional priorities/policies and were successful in obtaining ESIF funding as a result of the TRIS project.

During the visit the attendees also visited several best practice sites including Severn Trent plc large anaerobic facility process waste food and the Tyseley Enterprise zone where a large biomass facility was visited.
